Thunder 125 Rockets 124…The defending champs started the season the hard way as Oklahoma city won a thriller over the Rockets.Houston had the Thunder on the ropes but clutch shooting from OKC point guard Shai Gilgeous Alexander helped the home team prevail.Oklahoma City was rocking on Tuesday like they never missed a beat.Shai Gilgeous Alexander led OKC in scoring with 39.Alexander also led in assists for the Thunder who resumed their winning ways.Chet Holmgren led the Thunder in boards doing lunch pail work in the paint.

Blue Jays 6 Mariners 2…The die was cast by Toronto on Sunday night as the Blue Jays forced a game seven in Seattle on Monday.Vladimir Guerrero homered for Toronto in the victory.Trey Lesavage had 5 and two thirds strong innings and struck out seven Mariners batters.Seattle will play in their first game seven as they attempt to advance to their first fall classic ever against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Iowa 37 Wisconsin 0…Wisconsin is a party state and the Iowa Hawkeyes gave their brethren plenty of fodder this past Saturday.Running back Xavier Williams scored two touchdowns via the ground en route to a 37 to 0 drubbing of the Wisconsin Badgers.Iowa’s defense broke the Badger’s bones to make their bread as the game was never in doubt.Iowa’s next game is against Penn State this Saturday.

Mariners 10 Blue Jays 3…Monday had a trick or treat feel to it in keeping with the season. The Seattle Mariners tricked the Blue Jays 10 to 3 which was no treat for Toronto fans. Julio Rodriguez and Jorge Polanco both hit three run homers in a laugher at Rogers Park. Logan Gilbert had a strong performance for the Mariners who hope to go up 3-0 on Wednesday night in Seattle.

Mariners 3 Tigers 2…The nights grow so long in the fall.The Seattle Mariners went loudly into that good night on Friday when they beat Detroit in the deciding game of a best of five series. Jorge Polanco scored once and hit a game winning single in the 15’th inning of a late night marathon. George Kirby pitched a gem for Seattle in a pitchers duel.The Mariners trek up to Canada to play Toronto in the ALCS.

Cubs 6 Brewers 1…The night was young for the Cubs as the autumn air was crisp and brimming with opportunities.One was the long ball which Chicago has employed all year so far.Ian Happ hit a three run homer in the first inning.Michael Busch added a solo shot as did Kyle Tucker.Matthew Boyd had 5 and two thirds strong innings and the bullpen shot down Milwaukee the rest of the way.Shota Imanaga takes the mound against the Brew Crew on Saturday night in the series finale where it is winner takes all.

Cubs 4 Brewers 3…Playoffs? You’re talking about playoffs? That impassioned plea by Jim Mora was felt by the Wrigley Field faithful on Wednesday.The Cubs answered the call by winning a clutch game and extending their series against the Brewers.Ian Happ hit a home run in the first.Then the Cubs Pete Crow Armstrong hit a two run single and the north side hit men scored all four of their runs in the opening frame.Jameson Taillon had a solid game and the Cubs bullpen was lights out at the end of the game.The Cubs host Milwaukee in game four on Thursday night.

The Ambivalent State of People Today…Chaz Palmonteri once opined “nobody cares” in the movie “Once Upon a Time in America”. It was in reference to Mickey Mantle declining to sign a young boys autograph.Today there is so much ambivalence it is shocking.On Sunday Emari Demercada fumbled the ball on the goal line in a game between his Arizona Cardinals and the visiting Tennessee Titans.No one hit Emari he just dropped the ball.A Titans cornerback fell on it and Tennessee recovered it and got a touchback.The Cardinals were leading 21 to 6 at the time and they wound up losing this game by one point 22 to 21.In large urban cities people walk over dead people on their way to work.Often it is several hours before anyone is notified of this kind of tragedy.As the saying goes if you do not care who will.I cared enough to write this.So much for the ambivalent state of Americans.After all we elected a president who is so larcenous that he makes Huey Long and Jim Traficant look like choir boys.If we ever decide to give a darn maybe we could turn our fortunes around for the better.

Vikings 21 Browns 17… London calling and the Minnesota Vikings answered.Cam Akers threw a touchdown pass on a halfback option.The Vikings also got a touchdown from Carson Wentz.Add a Mason run for a TD and that was enough.The Vikings have a bye next week as do the Browns.
